Bangkok Latte Art Throwdown

One Night, One Community:
Loveramics Bangkok Latte Art Throwdown

Coffee is more than a drink; it is a cultural language and a canvas for creativity. On May 8th, during the World of Coffee Asia Bangkok, Loveramics Bangkok Flagship Shop hosted our first-ever Latte Art Throwdown. This initiative brought baristas, coffee lovers, and design enthusiasts together to celebrate artistry and human connection.

Why the Loveramics Egg Cup is the Choice of Champions

At Loveramics, design is intentional. Every curve, proportion, and material choice is engineered to elevate the specialty coffee experience. Recognized globally as a benchmark of excellence, Loveramics Egg Cup served as the official competition cup of the World Latte Art Championship (WLAC) between 2015 and 2023, and reached new heights on its reputation at the World Latte Art Championship 2023 in Taipei, where Liang Fan made history as the first Chinese champion. His winning creations, poured into Loveramics Egg Cups, embodied the difficulty, balance, and design logic he often speaks of. That moment was not only a personal triumph but also a celebration of how artistry and vessel come together on the world stage.

Following this milestone, we collaborated with Liang Fan to launch a limited edition Egg Cup set, engraved with his signature and unique design motif. This collection honors his championship journey while paying tribute to the deep connection between latte art and thoughtful cup design.

And it was only fitting that when our Bangkok Flagship Shop hosted its first Latte Art Throwdown, the Egg Cup once again took center stage. Every pour in the competition was served in the same vessel that had carried Liang Fan’s championship art in Taipei, linking Bangkok’s community celebration to the global stage of latte art excellence.

Baristas value the Egg Cup for three key reasons:

  • Fluid Dynamics: Its rounded interior guides milk and espresso flow smoothly, enabling symmetrical pours.
  • Temperature Control: High-density porcelain with thick walls retains heat efficiently, preserving crema and milk texture
  • Visual Framing: Its precise proportions and wide brim frame latte art clearly, enhancing contrast and visibility
The Throwdown: 32 Baristas, 1 Coffee Community

When energy is shared, the coffee community flourishes. We watched 32 baristas step up to the espresso machine, pouring designs that expressed their unique style and imagination. From playful patterns to precise, highly technical pours, every cup carried a personal touch.

The event successfully bridged local talent with international expertise. To ensure Bangkok’s coffee scene was judged by world-class standards, we invited an elite panel of judges:

  • Liang Fan: World Latte Art Champion
  • Mook Asama Vichaidit: Owner of Asama Coffee & Roastery, WCC Certified Judge
  • Jayz Lim: Coffee Trainer & QC Manager at Rolling Roasters, WBrC and WLAC Certified Judge

Judges Who Inspire a Global Coffee Culture

Liang Fan, the 2023 World Latte Art Champion, brought more than his title to Bangkok — he brought a philosophy that has reshaped how baristas think about creativity. In his Comunicaffe International interview, he reflected:" For a long time, many latte artists are doing some safe pattern design… And I am bold, I chose to break through myself and break through the limit of a self! My patterns are all very difficult to design.". His approach, rooted in difficulty, balance, and design logic, extends naturally to cup choice. For the community gathered in Loveramics Bangkok Flagship, through Liang Fan's championship philosophy, the competition conveyed that latte art is not confined to visual beauty. Baristas could sense the call to push boundaries, treating each pour as both a technical challenge and a cultural expression.

Mook Asama Vichaidit, owner of Asama Coffee & Roastery in Chiang Mai, has become one of the most respected figures in Thailand’s specialty coffee movement. Her work emphasizes sustainability, transparency, and nurturing local talent. As a certified judge at world coffee competitions, her presence at the Throwdown underscored the importance of connecting Thailand’s growing coffee scene with international standards.

Jayz Lim, Coffee Trainer & QC Manager at Rolling Roasters, is also a certified judge for both the World Brewers Cup (WBrC) and World Latte Art Championship (WLAC). His dual role in training and judging reflects his commitment to precision and consistency, helping to uphold international competition standards while encouraging creative risk‑taking. Through Jayz Lim’s judging, the event reflected Bangkok’s readiness to stand alongside global coffee hubs. Competitors experienced the idea that such contests are less about trophies and more about elevating the craft together.
